The history of

Behavioral Health System, Inc.
1974 – SERV Centers of New Jersey 
is founded by a group of families and mental healthcare providers who care for seriously and persistently mentally ill adults or family members.
1974 – SERV Foundation is formed to provide financial support to the organization.
1987 – The Center for Innovative Family Achievements (CIFA) is established to provide training and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and youth with behavioral challenges and emotional problems.
1995 — Clifton Mental Health Services, founded in 1960, merges with SERV Centers of N.J. and becomes Clifton Behavioral Healthcare.
1996 - SERV aquires CIFA to further develop the company's mission of service to those with developmental disabilities. In 2008, the name was changed to SERV Achievement Centers.
1996 — SERV Centers of New Jersey reorganizes to become SERV Behavioral Health System, Inc. and includes:
- Advanced Health Management, a for-profit company to manage other nonprofits
- Center for Innovative Family Achievements
- SERV Centers of New Jersey
- SERV Foundation
- SERV Properties & Management, which specializes in the planning, development and management of housing for special populations
2008 — SERV BHS acquires Creative Intervention in Clifton, which provides evaluation and treatment for adults with psychiatric and chemical dependency problems.
SERV has offices in Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Ocean, Passaic and Union counties, as well as operations in Burlington and Monmouth counties.
